Hunab Ku was, to the Mayas, the supreme God and ultimate Creator. It represented the gateway to other Galaxies beyond our Sun as well as all of the Consciousness that has ever existed in this Galaxy. Hunab Ku, according to the Mayas, is also the Consciousness which organized all matter, from a “whirling disk”, into stars, planets and solar systems. Hunab Ku is the “Mother Womb” which is constantly giving birth to new stars and it gave birth to our own Sun and Planet Earth. They also believed that the “Creator” directs everything that happens in our Galaxy from its center through the emanation of periodic “Consciousness Energy” bursts. Today, modern astronomers have verified that at the center of our Galaxy is a “whirling disk” with a “Black Hole” at its center that is both swallowing and giving birth to stars.
Hunab Ku is a name coined by Jose Arguelles, a modern day author and pioneer researcher of the Mayan calendar, for what the Mayans referred to as “The Galactic Butterfly”. In the Yucatec Mayan language, Hunab Ku actually means “Source – The One, Giver of Movement and Measure, the galactic center, God”.
Modern Maya Daykeeper Hunbatz Men calls Hunab Ku “The Only Giver of Movement and Measure”, the Universal Consciousness and prime organizer of our Galaxy.
The Mayans believed The Galactic Butterfly resides in the center of the Milky Way galaxy. To them, this Being symbolizes all of the consciousness of all creation that has ever existed in the galaxy. Butterflies also were representative of their ancestors that have returned to visit the physical. The symbol of The Galactic Butterfly is a powerful Mayan reminder of reaching out to actively unite with this consciousness.
Not only is the existence and location of Hunab Ku the basis for the Mayan calendar, the Mayans regarded Galactic Center as the ultimate adjudicator of the entire future of humanity. Cyclical energy bursts of consciousness from the Creator in the center of the Galaxy, they believed, is what directs everything that happens here on Earth. It is also where new stars and planets are born and is the gateway to other galaxies.
Some of these ancient Mayan beliefs have been clearly verified by modern day astronomers and quantum physicists not that long ago. They have recently become re-conscious that the center of the galaxy contains a black hole that swallows and gives birth to stars, and of the existence of low frequency radio waves emanating from it. Could it be that one of the purposes of this energy from the center of the galaxy is to give humanity access to the collective consciousness, where all knowledge from the mind of God is contained?
If we consider other fundamental Mayan beliefs, we learn how they deemed Hunab Ku as the Creator God of new beginnings. They also believed all things have a beginning and an end. Does the ending of the Mayan calendar portend a new age or the beginning of a new cycle? That is for each one of us to independently decide and, in fact, what you are convinced to be true will materialize in your physical world as proof of your truth, since you are the creator of your own reality, a reality based on your belief system

According to the Mayans, Hunab Ku also unites what we on Earth have perceived for thousands of years as opposing forces, the essence of duality: masculine and feminine, conscious and unconscious, objective and subjective, analytical and intuitive, external and internal, right and wrong, etc. As we seek to raise our consciousness and make the soul connection to Source, we will be able to find the perfect balance in our dualistic natures, synchronizing them with the Law of Oneness.
As we approach the end of 2012, there are many reasons to remain positive about the December solstice being a herald of a Golden Age. Our understanding of God is continuing to evolve into a deeper level of knowingness. We can consciously, with intention, “plug into” the energy emanating from Hunab Ku to speed up our own awakening process
When we awaken to who and what we really are, an invaluable, but widely acknowledged, benefit is to become re-acquainted with our own unique talents, gifted to us by the Creator at the time of our soul inception. These gifts are expressions of our divinity and are designed to further our own spiritual growth and facilitate our eventual return back to the Ultimate Creator, whilst also serving the rest of humanity and all of creation.
